Our new Confirmation preparation program gathers teens in Grade 8 (and above) into small groups led by an adult mentor for catechesis, discussion, and discipleship as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the spring. Each group covers the same themes and uses the same foundational materials, while choosing their own meeting schedule.

All groups are encouraged to come together at the Sunday 5pm Youth Mass, and there are opportunities provided throughout the year for Eucharistic Adoration, Reconciliation, retreats, and service projects.

Confirmandi and their sponsors process in together and are seated in reserved pews at the front of the church. Family and friends may sit in any unreserved pews.

Confirmation Rehearsal

  • Only confirmandi need to attend the rehearsal (sponsors do not attend the rehearsal.)  Instructions for sponsors will be given prior to the Mass.
  • Robes will be distributed at rehearsal for the confirmandi to bring home.
  • The confirmandi will wear the robes to the Confirmation Mass.

Confirmation Mass

  • All confirmandi (wearing their robes) and sponsors should arrive 45 minutes prior to Mass and proceed to the Parish Hall.
  • If your sponsor is unable to attend the Mass, a proxy may stand in. (A parent can be a proxy.) The proxy should arrive early with the confirmandi.
  • The Bishop and Fr. Jim will speak to the confirmandi and sponsors prior to Mass so we ask confirmandi and sponsors to please be prompt.
  • In order to preserve the appropriate reverence for the Sacrament, please refrain from taking pictures or using video cameras during the Mass.  After the recessional, Bishop Reed will return to the front of the church for photos.
  • When departing after Mass, please drop the red stoles in the bins available at all doors. The white robes are yours to keep.
  • Confirmation Mass will be approximately 60-90 minutes.

If you have any questions about any part of the process, please contact Linda Messore, Director of Children’s Faith Formation.

Enrollment Mass

At this Mass, which takes place in the fall, the Confirmation candidates will be invited forward by Fr. Jim to sign the Book of Enrollment in the presence of the community, signifying their desire for the sacrament and commitment to the process of preparation.

The candidates are committing to deepen their relationship with God through the process, explore what it means to receive the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in their lives, and remain open to what God is asking of them at this moment. They are also agreeing to be active members of the faith community and to contribute to their small groups with their attendance and positive participation.

The community is committing to pray for these young people as they dedicate themselves to the process, and to be living witnesses to the faith with their lives in and out of the parishes. They are also agreeing to be willing to engage honestly with these young people in questions and conversations about the Catholic faith.

This is an important step in your child’s preparation for the Sacrament – please make every effort to participate in this Mass.

Teen Reconciliation Service

This service, held during Lent, is an open invitation to all teens – particularly those preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this spring – to experience God’s love and mercy.

There will be music, a brief reading from scripture, a short reflection, and a walk through an examination of conscience. The Youth Ministry team will help guide you through all the steps to leaving a little lighter and filled with God’s mercy!

Interested, but not sure if you’ll feel ready to receive the sacrament?  That’s OK – please come anyway, and encourage your friends to come too! There will be no pressure, just an open invitation to experience God’s love and mercy.
