Evening for Women – Tuesday, October 13: “The Way We Walk: Lessons from the Camino” with Sister Colleen Gibson

This past June, Sister Colleen Gibson, the Collaborative’s Director of Pastoral Care, undertook the Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James), walking across Spain for two weeks with students from Mount Saint Joseph Academy, a college preparatory school founded and sponsored by her order, the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia.

All women of the Collaborative are warmly invited to join us this Tuesday, October 13 as Sr. Colleen offers a reflection on the lessons of her pilgrimage!

Followed by a potluck dinner in Powers Hall – bring a friend and a dish to share!

Rachel studied Cognitive Science at Vanderbilt University while participating in the Army ROTC program throughout her four years there. Upon graduating, she commissioned as an officer and Chaplain Candidate in the U.S. Army Reserve and has served with her unit at Fort Devens, MA, for the past three years. There may have been lots of rain outside, but nothing could dim the joy and love inside St. Paul Church and Parish Hall! We were blessed to celebrate Mass with Archbishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya of the Archdiocese of Bamenda, Cameroon, Fr. Gabriel’s home diocese. It is also where our 2025 Lenten Gift to Build the Faith has helped make the dream of a proper church for the St. John Paul II community a reality – the new church will be dedicated in early December! 

After Mass we enjoyed food, fun, and fellowship in the Parish Hall, thanks to the St. Vincent de Paul members who sponsored the cookout…

October 17: Young Adult Ministry – Kick Off Dinner with Dyads

Join the St. John St. Paul Collaborative Young Adult Ministry for the first event of the year, our Kick Off Dinner with Dyads, on October 17 at 6:00 pm at the St. John Rectory. A dyad is a pairing of two people who meet to talk about faith and life, listen to each other, and grow in friendship. At the dinner, you will meet someone new and spend time getting to know them through simple, honest conversation.

This is a potluck, so please bring a dish, dessert, or drink to share. Come hungry, come curious, and come ready to meet people.  All young adults ages 21 to 40 are welcome!

In June during his Apostolic Visit to Spain, our Holy Father Pope Leo XIV delivered an appeal to defend human dignity and protect life from conception to its natural end. “Every legislative task,” he said, “ultimately confronts a decisive question: what conception of the human person inspires laws, and what kind of society do those laws build?”

Just two months after the Holy Father’s address, Massachusetts passed one of the most expansive and permissive abortion laws in the nation, telling us what kind of society they desire for Massachusetts: one which leaves its most vulnerable citizens—children in the womb and their pregnant mothers—at perilous risk. This law is a tragedy, and the Catholic legislators who helped to enact it have caused grave scandal…

Will ‘nun girl summer’ give way to another season of sisters?

At the end of June, a post on Instagram by Cosmopolitan magazine named the trend that seemed to be sweeping social media. “Sister, it’s a nun girl summer,” the post pronounced in all caps, emblazoned over an image of a smiling religious sister perched in front of a podcasting microphone. 

As I scanned my own social media feeds, the trend was undeniable: Sisters were showing up in force. There were the Salesian Sisters who were rooting for the San Antonio Spurs as they pursued the NBA championship. In response, a group of Sisters of St, Joseph brought their own fandom to the pages of the New York Post for some sisterly competition as they blessed Madison Square Garden and rooted for their beloved New York Knicks…
