June 17-18: Overnight Camping Trip to Vermont
Details:
Leaving: Monday, June 17, 2024 at 11:00am from the Saint John School Parking Lot
Returning: Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at approximately 5:00 – 6:00pm to the Saint John School Parking Lot
Location: Camping on the Battenkill 48 Camping on the Battenkill, Arlington, VT 05250
Distance: ~3.5 hours (~160 miles)
Transportation: We will all be traveling as a group in a 15 passenger van
Cost per person: $125 payable online or by check (includes camping and transportation costs, dinner Monday evening, breakfast Tuesday morning, snacks and some drinks but we will mostly be drinking water – everyone must bring a personal refillable water bottle)
If you need help with the cost please let us know – no one will miss the trip for financial reasons!

Things To Do Now
- Register officially for the trip by completing and returning the appropriate Archdiocese of Boston Liability Waiver & Medical Authorization Form (required – due by June 12, 2024!)
- Make your payment online or by check (info to the right or at the bottom of the page)
- Check out the list of things you will need to bring (and the list of things you should not bring!) and start getting ready!
Things You Will Need to Bring
- A packed lunch for drive up on Monday (required) Something easy to eat in the van and ideally bagged and disposable!
- Sleeping bag (required)
- Camping mat (optional)
- Camping Mess Kit (required) A good example: https://www.amazon.com/UCO-6-Piece-Camping-Utensil-Venture/dp/B083YYS862?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1
- Life jacket/PFD for tubing (required) Tubes are provided but you must bring your own life jacket/PFD
- Water shoes/sandals (recommended) The river and shore can be rocky.
- Flashlight/headlamp
- Refillable water bottle (required) Bring something light – and that won’t devastate you if it gets lost tubing!
- Bathing suit and/or shirt and shorts than can get wet for tubing (required)
- Towel
- Comfortable clothes – but not too much! (required) Just enough for 2 days plus a complete change of clothes if you get wet!
- Warm sweats for evening/sleeping (required) It’s still cold at night in Vermont!
- Sunscreen and bug spray
- Personal toiletries
- Any medication required Please indicate on medical form
- McDonald’s money!
Things You Will NOT Need (and should not bring!)
- Expensive/irreplaceable jewelry
- Electronics (other than your cell phone which you are welcome to bring – but we will have some phone-free times.)
- A large amount of cash (just McDonald’s money!)
Tentative Itinerary
Monday
- 11:00am: Assemble at the St. John School Parking Lot
- Lunch: We will be eating our personal bagged lunches on the road
- 3:30pm – 4:00pm: Estimated arrival at Camping on the Battenkill
- Afternoon: Set up campsite, group activities and games
- Dinner: Provided – we will cook out at the campsite
- Evening Prayer
- Night: Group and individual activities, campfire, singing
Tuesday
- Morning Prayer
- Breakfast: Provided – we will cook out at the campsite
- Early Morning: Pack up tents & personal belongings, prepare tubes, etc.
- Late Morning: Float down the Battenkill River from the campground to Stateline Roadside Park
- Early Afternoon: Arrive at Stateline Roadside Park, drive back to the campground to get our gear, and depart for Wellesley.
- Food on the way home: We will stop at McD’s – bring that McDonalds money!
- 5:00 – 6:00pm: Anticipated arrival back at the Saint John School Parking Lot.
