Cardinal O’Malley releases statement on Texas shooting

Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley released the following statement May 24, after a gunman killed 19 children and two adults at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.

“Today’s tragedy in Uvalde, Texas leaves us all stunned by the unthinkable loss of so many innocent young lives and the teacher who devoted her life to educating and nurturing the children.

Our nation has too often become a place of unspeakable crimes of gun violence that have taken far too many lives, though none more heartbreaking than innocent children. We must take action to stop this senseless carnage…

Friday, March 25: Pope Francis will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

On Friday, March 25th, the Feast of the Annunciation, Pope Francis will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary during a prayer service at St. Peter’s Basilica.

Pope Francis has asked all the bishops of the world, along with their priests, to join him in the prayer for peace and in the consecration and entrustment of Russia and of Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Cardinal Sèan has asked that we all join the Holy Father in this universal prayer of consecration. All are encouraged to attend Mass on Friday morning at St. Paul at 9:00AM, when this special prayer of consecration will be included.

Special Collection for Ukraine March 19-20

Due to the unprecedented needs brought about by the devastation of the attacks on Ukraine and the immigration of millions of victims fleeing the ravages of the war, Cardinal Seán has authorized a special collection to be taken up at all parishes this weekend, March 19 and 20.

The monetary donations collected this weekend for Ukraine will go to the Vatican agency for outreach to the Churches in Eastern Europe as well as Catholic Relief Services (CRS). CRS is the overseas relief and development agency of the U.S. Catholic Bishops. The work of CRS in Ukraine is happening right now and includes field kitchens that provide hot meals; reception services at Caritas offices, train stations and other locations, providing displaced people with clothing, information, referrals, food, water, hygiene items and counseling support; work in evacuation centers and much more…

From Cardinal Seán: Special Collection for Ukraine March 19-20

Due to the unprecedented needs brought about by the devastation of the attacks on Ukraine and the immigration of millions of victims fleeing the ravages of the war, I am authorizing a special collection to be taken up at all parishes on the weekend of March 19 and 20. The proceeds from the collection will be sent to Catholic Relief Services, the overseas relief and development agency of the U.S. Catholic Bishops, and to the Vatican agency for outreach to the Churches in Eastern Europe.

Through news coverage of the war, we have witnessed the immediate human crisis needs, including those caused by the horrendous bombing of a maternity hospital. There will also be longer term needs, for rebuilding churches and hospitals, and other recovery and reconstruction programs…

RCAB Mask Mandate Extended Through March 3

In the light of the continued growth in the numbers of new COVID cases, Cardinal Seán is extending the current mask mandate.

It is mandated that that throughout the archdiocese all people attending public Masses, including weddings and funerals, wear masks. This is an extension of the mandate currently in effect, and expires on Thursday, March 3, 2022, which is the day after Ash Wednesday.

RCAB Mask Mandate Begins Saturday, December 18

In the light of spiking numbers of new COVID cases and the likely increase in those numbers in the upcoming holiday season, Cardinal Seán O’Malley has mandated the wearing of masks when attending public Masses, including weddings and funerals, throughout the Archdiocese of Boston, beginning next Saturday, December 18.

Masks will be required, regardless of vaccination status, beginning next weekend, December 18-19.
