Our first meeting of the new season will be Thursday, September 26, at 7:00pm in the St. Paul office building. Our book will be G.K. Chesterton’s The Everlasting Man

Considered by many to be Chesterton’s greatest masterpiece of all his writings, this is his whole view of world history as informed by the Incarnation. Beginning with the origin of man and the various religious attitudes throughout history, Chesterton shows how the fulfillment of all of man’s desires takes place in the person of Christ and in Christ’s Church. 

For the first meeting, we will discuss Part One, Chapters 1-4.

Collaborative Book Club: “Surprised by Joy” by C.S. Lewis Begins May 9

The SJSP Book Club will meet on Thursday, May 9 at 7pm in the St. Paul Rectory to begin our discussion of Surprised by Joy  by C.S. Lewis. 

Lewis takes readers on a spiritual journey through his early life and eventual embrace of the Christian faith. This meeting we will discuss Chapters 1-7.

Newcomers are always welcome! Meetings are in person on the 2nd and 4th Thursday evenings of each month.

Collaborative Book Club – “Jesus of Nazareth: Holy Week”

The SJSP Book Club will meet on Thursday, March 14 at 7:00pm in the St. Paul Rectory to begin our discussion of Jesus of Nazareth: Holy Week by  Pope Benedict XVI.  Benedict invites us to accompany Jesus from the entrance into Jerusalem to the resurrection.  This week we will discuss chapters 1-3.

Collaborative Book Club – Thursday, November 9: “The Diary of a Country Priest” –

The SJSP Book Club will meet this Thursday, November 9 at 7:00pm in the St. Paul Rectory to begin our discussion of The Diary of a Country Priest by Georges Bernanos.

This novel recounts the life of a young French country priest who grows to understand his provincial parish while learning spiritual humility himself.  This week we will discuss chapters 1-4.

Collaborative Book Club: “How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization”

We will continue with Chapters 5-6 of  How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization, by Thomas E. Woods. (Available online and at local booksellers.) 

In this short book, Professor Woods provides a survey of the Church’s contribution to literary preservation, education, science, art and architecture, law, economics, charity, and morality.

A new permanent book club is being formed for our Collaborative, to read and discuss a variety of books pertaining to our Catholic faith.
