The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is asking dioceses to consider a special collection for Gaza relief efforts.

In a letter to U.S. Bishops, Archbishop Broglio, President of the USCCB, wrote:

Our Church mourns the terrible suffering of Christians and other innocent victims of violence in Gaza and surrounding areas who are struggling to survive, protect their children, and live with dignity in dire conditions. The Holy Father continues to call for a cease fire and for aid to enter the territory, noting with great sorrow that “Gaza is starving.”

The Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) is there providing vital emergency humanitarian relief and medical and psychological care for the sick, malnourished and wounded. Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is working through local Church partners to provide food, shelter, cash assistance, hygiene supplies, and care for people’s emotional well-being.

The situation in Gaza and across the Middle East cries out for the assistance of the Catholic community of the United States…

Archbishop Henning supports this effort, and requests that parishes consider taking up this collection as soon as possible.

We will hold our special collection here at our Collaborative on the weekend of September 6-7. 100% of the funds collected will go to support the humanitarian work of CNEWA and CRS for those suffering the effects of war and famine in Gaza.

TO CONTRIBUTE: Cash/checks may be placed in the Second Collection at all Masses on the weekend of September 6-7. Please address checks to your parish (“St. John the Evangelist Parish” or “St. Paul Parish”) and note “Gaza Relief” in the memo.  Checks may also be mailed to/dropped at either parish office.
