BUILD THE FAITH is a nonprofit organization inspired by the unwavering faith exhibited by Christina Dangond Lacouture, a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer on December 12, 2012, at the tender age of 6. Throughout her arduous five-year battle against cancer, Christina provided a remarkable testament to strength, courage, and an unshakeable belief in God. She demonstrated that it is possible to navigate life’s most challenging circumstances with a radiant smile and profound trust in Jesus, consistently proclaiming, “Jesus, I trust in you.”
A primary focus of the organization is the construction of Catholic churches in economically distressed areas. They have successfully completed projects in 6 countries: Colombia, Argentina, Nicaragua, Ghana, Mexico and El Salvador. They are now assisting a church community in Cameroon where Fr. Gabriel served as pastor.
The community lacks a proper church building for its growing population, which exceeds 500 individuals. Despite this challenge, the community remains vibrant and actively engaged in their faith. They gather for the sacraments in a small structure that was previously used as a poultry farm. Unfortunately, due to the limited space, more than half of the population must remain outside during Mass.
Father Gabriel has conveyed his deep appreciation for the assistance offered, which gives hope for the realization of a long-awaited dream: the construction of a proper church where they can all worship together.
