Each year, on the weekend closest to the Feast of St.Vincent de Paul, our Collaborative’s St. Vincent de Paul Society asks for your help in raising funds for our mission of providing urgently needed assistance to our neighbors for the basic necessities of life. This year, on the weekend of September 30-October 1, our Collaborative will take up a second collection at all Masses to seek your renewed assistance for the Society. Last year, you responded magnificently, and since then we have collected about $25,000.

As a result of your generosity, we have been able to help 37 different individuals and families. Our largest single expenditures are for rent and utilities at more than $18,000, followed by auto payments and repairs at $2,600.

Most of us in this affluent community are blessed by God with reliable incomes and housing.  It is sometimes difficult to realize how many of our brothers and sisters live in desperate situations. Many of those who approach us are mothers who fail to receive the child support payments they are due, or people whose lives have been disrupted by illness or loss of jobs. We in the Society visit the homes of our “friends” as we refer to them and analyze each request in light of the person’s income and expenses. But YOU are the real champions in this effort because, without you, we would be unable to provide this help.

We also invite you to two community-building events on Sunday, October 1: our second annual Community Walk and BBQ.  The Community Walk begins at St. Paul Church immediately following the 11:00am Mass and proceeds east on Washington Street to St. John the Evangelist Church. We arrive at St. John’s shortly after the end of the 12:00noon Mass, where we will join fellow parishioners for a BBQ, games, raffle and more in the Saint John School parking lot.  All are welcome!

To Help Us Plan for the BBQ please RSVP!
