Are You Approaching Retirement and Wondering What Comes Next?

The Ignatian Volunteer Corps (IVC) connects adults 50+ with community-based organizations where they make a meaningful impact through long-term service and spiritual growth. Rooted in Ignatian Spirituality, our corps members integrate their faith, skills, and life experience to bring hope, dignity, and compassion to those in need. Through hands-on service, our corps members not only address immediate community needs but also embark on a journey of personal and spiritual development.

The IVC opened its New England Region in January 2009. The first New Englan Ignatian Volunteers were eleven men and women from assorted walks of life and different educational backgrounds, looking to put their life experiences, talents, and time at the disposal of the poor in the neighborhoods of Boston, Worcester, and Providence, and in surrounding communities.

Today, more than sixty women and men continue to serve in these neighborhoods and communities. These service corps members are supported by one another and by seasoned spiritual reflectors whose task is to help them look at their service and to reflect upon its deeper meaning for themselves and for those whom they serve.

What IVC Members Do
  • Instruct, mentor, and coach in a variety of educational settings
  • Teach ESOL and locate resources for adult students and immigrants
  • Provide services to those experiencing homelessness
  • Offer administrative, development, marketing, and HR support to nonprofit staff
  • Engage in elderly outreach
  • Coordinate food and furniture delivery to families in need
  • Assist with job preparation and legal assistance
